Alyssa's Story
“In the beginning, I was just ready to get going. Now that I’m near the end of my journey, I wish time would slow down a bit!”
My surrogacy journey, I think, looks a little different than the “normal” one as my mom was a surrogate back in the 90s! I’ve understood what surrogacy was since I was about six years old. Once I got older, it was something I knew I would want to do for someone – it was even something my now-husband and I discussed while we were dating, so he’s always known it was part of the plan. My husband and I completed our family in 2017 with our daughter, and, after her low risk pregnancy, decided to pursue my own journey with surrogacy.
I did a lot of research on organizations, and NWSC stood out due to the long history of supporting adoptive parents and those pursuing surrogacy. Everyone I have worked with has been amazing! My final decision to become a surrogate came after the birth of my daughter. My pregnancy with her was fairly “easy,” and I knew I would want to experience pregnancy again. I felt strong and confident with my pregnancy with her (even with the challenges/discomfort that comes with growing a human!), so I felt good in my decision to pursue surrogacy and carrying for someone. I can’t begin to describe the love I have for my daughter, and how I would truly do anything for her, so the fact I could possibly give someone else that kind of love made it an easy decision.

I am also a huge advocate for people getting a choice in how they start their families or not. If I have the ability to help someone grow their family who cannot do it themselves, I am happy to do it! The process to get to where I am now (35 weeks pregnant with the little surrobabe!), took a long time because of all the steps in the process, as well as some delays from COVID, but it was so worth it. I have matched with a soon-to-be dad, and cannot wait for him to meet his daughter in a few short weeks!! My surrogacy gave me ALL the feelings! It’s exciting, emotional, nerve wracking, and tests your patience. A lot of waiting for results, next steps, etc., but it’s worth it in the end. In the beginning, I was just ready to get going. Now that I’m near the end of my journey, I wish time would slow down a bit!
My biggest advice for other surrogates; have patience in the process. The waiting periods are there for a reason, as stressful as it can seem at times. Also, do what you can to get and stay healthy leading up to your pregnancy. IVF pregnancies are a little different from those naturally conceived, and we all know every pregnancy is different, so do what you can to be strong and healthy to grow that baby! Finally, talk to other surrogates before making your decision! Every journey is different, but talking with someone who has done it before is very helpful. Plus, it’s really fun to hear all the stories and different experiences.
