Celebrating Pride Month: Honoring the Journey to LGBTQ+ Family Building

In Celebration of Pride Month : How NWSC Has Helped LGBTQ+ Families Grow Since 1994
For decades, LGBTQ+ parents have forged new paths to parenthood—through adoption, assisted reproduction, and surrogacy—often overcoming legal, cultural, and logistical barriers. Their determination has not only redefined what family looks like but has also expanded societal understandings of kinship, care, and belonging.
While surrogacy was once a road less traveled for same-sex couples, it has grown into a trusted and affirming option for many. Today, it’s one of the most viable paths to biological parenthood for gay dads and LGBTQ+ individuals who dream of raising children.
Northwest Surrogacy Center has been part of that progress since its founding in 1994. At a time when options were limited or closed off entirely to same-sex couples, NWSC stood out as one of the first surrogacy agencies welcoming LGBTQ+ intended parents. That legacy of inclusion has continued over the decades, LGBTQ+ families are half of the intended parents we serve and has resulted in welcoming over 1,281 babies to loving families. It’s a reflection of an enduring belief: that family is defined not by gender, biology, or orientation, but by love and commitment.
As we celebrate Pride, we honor the LGBTQ+ parents who have paved the way and those who are just beginning their family-building journey. This month, we also uplift the surrogates whose generosity and courage make these families possible. Their partnership represents a powerful form of solidarity and allyship—creating space for others to realize their dreams of parenthood.
Whether you’re a hopeful parent, a surrogate, or an ally, Pride Month is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and renew our commitment to a future where everyone has the chance to build the family they envision.
Happy Pride!
